Leg Screw is a durable screw with an externally driven square or hex drive head. Leg Screws feature uneven threads and a tapered point. Leg Screw is heavy-duty than conventional wood screws that are fitted with slotted heads. Leg Screw is used to compress rupture fragments. It is threaded into the opposed cortex, and slips through a hole in the near cortex. Tightening the screw presses the screw head against the adjacent cortex, reducing the fracture fragments. Optimally, a leg screw must be perpendicular to the fracture plane. Leg Screws are used to connect hefty lumber or other heavyweight materials that are bearing a strong load.
